Current Trends in Kitchen Design

Since the kitchen is the heart of your home, it’s no surprise you’d want it to look its best. Whether you’re preparing for a full-blown kitchen renovation, building a new one, or just looking to make a couple of changes to your current kitchen, here are a few trends that will refresh your kitchen.

Colors

The current trend in kitchen design is toward versatility, utilizing greys and whites that give a crisp, clean look and permit almost any style or theme.

Cabinets

Contemporary cabinets are basic and have less ornamentation than their traditional counterparts. Another big trend is toward movable cabinetry. Cabinet parts move up, down, or out for more accessibility. Drawers often replace lower cabinets for a better organizational system and also more accessibility.

Countertops

It’s no surprise granite countertops are still quite popular, but it’s nice to see some cheaper alternatives on the rise as well.

Quartz

Although not necessarily cheaper than granite, quartz countertops are durable, nonporous, heat resistant, and impervious to spills and scratches, making them a strong contender against granite.

Laminate

Gone are the days of cheap-looking laminate countertops. Modern lookalike laminate gives the appearance of granite with more durability than its ancestors, making kitchen renovations possible for more budgets.

Sinks

Farmhouse sinks, also known as apron-front sinks, continue to be a popular choice in kitchen designs. These sinks provide many with a homey sense of nostalgia. Their attraction is both for fashion and usability, as they provide more functionality for washing large pots and platters.

Lighting

Big statement lights are all the rage these days, allowing something functional like lighting to also be a fashion factor.

Electronics

Integrating docking stations for smartphones, iPads, or iPods is more prevalent now than ever. These docking stations charge your devices while they play music, display recipes, or FaceTime your sister.

Luxuries

If your budget is large, you should consider automating your kitchen. Adding automated sinks and sensor-activated lights and devices are just some of the ways you can welcome your kitchen into the 21st century.
