We want you to get to know our team better, so from time to time we will post in our Employee Spotlight series. This month we’re getting to know Cherie Asselin, our Administrative Assistant.
As Administrative Assistant, what does a typical work day look like for you?
First thing in the morning, I check any messages that were left during the night and direct them to the correct person. Next I make job packets that include information needed at the job site. If the job is starting soon, I update the information in our system. I straighten up the office to make sure it’s ready for in-office appointments. I also manage the mail and organize new literature and marketing materials. I take all the calls that come in, greeting potential clients. I’m typically the first person potential clients meet.
What would people never guess you do in your position at Fortin?
My title covers a range of activities, but one thing that’s somewhat surprising is that I also sell the flooring, lights, and appliances in our CaMLaS showroom. I also order inventory and manage our warehouse.
How long have you worked with Fortin Construction?
May 10th makes 5 years.
How is the company different than it was five years ago?
We’ve really started putting ourselves “out there” with social media. Mark Fortin has brought a fresh, new perspective to things here. His youth and knowledge are astonishing.
What do you like most about working at Fortin Construction?
The people here are great, and I really enjoy working with them. There are times to be serious, but there are times we joke, and they’re okay with that.
If you could switch jobs with anyone else at Fortin, who would it be?
I would love to switch jobs with Bub. When the homes are nearly complete, he gets to meet the clients and go through the finished product with them. Then a year later, he gets to meet with them again and discuss how much they still like their home (or not). Bub’s job can get dirty, but he enjoys it, and I know I would too.
What kinds of hobbies do you have outside of work?
My daughter, Haylee, and I started doing the Color Runs last year to help charities in the community. We have fun getting colorful. My son, Jordan, and I collect comic books together. Our collection includes what I collected in the 1990s. Yes, I am pretty proud.
What is your favorite movie?
“Dennis the Menace” with Walter Matthau
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
Sounds weird, but I could not live without socks. Feet really creep me out. TMI?
What’s on your bucket list?
I really want to travel from Maine to California stopping in every state to try the best pizza restaurant the state has to offer. Then I would be the judge and post my findings.
