We want you to get to know our team better, so from time to time we will post in our Employee Spotlight series. This month we’re getting to know Rob Farrington, our General Manager.

Rob, tell us a little about yourself.

I grew up here in Auburn and graduated from Edward Little High School. I also graduated from Florida Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. I’m married and have two daughters.

What is your role at Fortin Construction?

As the General Manager, I handle Human Resources and all financial matters plus whatever else needs my attention.

What does a typical day at work look like for you?

I spend most of my time in the office. I do a lot of computer work, bookkeeping, and paperwork. Most of my time is spent liaising with banks, title companies, and customers.

How long have you worked with Fortin Construction?

20+ years

How was the company different then than now?

When I first started, our office was in the basement of Don Fortin’s home on a private road. I was the only office person, and I handled all administrative duties, in addition to bookkeeping, permits, doing specs with customers, etc. Now we have a commercial building with many offices, a pretty extensive showroom, an administrative assistant (thank goodness!), and other office personnel as well.

What do you like most about working at Fortin Construction?

It’s a family-oriented business, and we care very much about the quality of work we do for people. We all get along with each other and truly want each other to be successful, which in turn makes the company successful.

Before working here, what was the most interesting job you had?

Before I came to work for Fortin Construction, I co-owned a small local restaurant with a friend of mine. It was called Barnacle Barney’s Chowder House. Fortin Construction actually built my house during this time, and when we closed the restaurant I came to work here.

What hobbies do you have outside of work?

My wife and I enjoy playing golf when we can. I am a volunteer assistant football coach at the high school and a clown for the local Shriner organization. I also enjoy SCUBA diving, and my whole family got certified a few years ago together.

What is your pet peeve?

I do have a few, but one is that bugs the heck out of me is when people put empty ice trays back in the freezer instead of filling them back up first. You’d be surprised how many people do it.

What is your favorite movie?

Tough one, I’m a fan of all the superhero movies. My favorite is maybe Spider Man.

What is one thing you couldn’t live without?

Easy one: my family.
